Hosted by Michael Steffen, BU Professor Jennifer Formichelli will be giving a brief lecture on Eliot’s famous young masterpiece followed by a reading given by Lloyd Schwartz of “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” along with some other early poems by Eliot and by the poets who influenced his early work, Swinburne, Browning, and Baudelaire.
Certain books were “banned in Boston” at least as far back as 1651, when one William Pynchon wrote a book criticizing Puritanism.
